Drop OffDance Party

We deserve this.

You already got up. You already got dressed. You're already out. Don't go home.

The idea

The kids are
back in school.
We're back on
the dance floor.

You had plans this morning. A meeting that could've been an email. Target, for one thing, that you were not going to find. Some laundry.

Meanwhile you know every word to every song that came out between 1997 and 2004 and you have not used any of it in public since 2011.

So we're doing this instead. A DJ. Mid-morning, right after drop off. A room full of women who came straight from the carpool line, singing loud enough that somebody's smart watch is going to ask if she's okay.

Done well before pickup, which is the best part.

Drop them off.
Come dance.

What to expect

Two hours.
One room.
Everybody
singing.

The music

90s, 2000s, and whatever is on the radio now. You know every word. You don't know where your keys are, but you know every word.

The time

A Friday morning, right after drop off. Two hours, and you are back before anybody notices you were gone.

The people

Your friends. Their friends. The woman belting the same Britney lyric next to you with her eyes shut. Your newest best friend by the last song.

Where this starts

First drop.
Roswell.
October 2.

The request line

Tell us the
song that
makes you
lose it.

There's a spot for it on the sign up form above. The one where you hear two seconds of the intro and you are already up, already singing it directly at somebody.

You've been doing this in the kitchen at 5:40 while the pasta boils. Same song, same key, terrible acoustics.

This time there's a DJ.

One question, one song

We can't play 150 songs in two hours. But the DJ builds the set off your answers, and forty of you are going to name the same one. You know which one.

Celine? Backstreet Boys?
Usher? Lil Jon?
Is it Britney, b*tch?

Lay it on us.

Questions people actually ask

The fine print.

Why in the morning?

Because nobody has to arrange anything. You're already up, they're already gone, you're already in the car, and your voice is warmed up from singing at every red light between home and the school. Seems like a waste to stop there.

Can I come alone?

Of course! This whole thing is giving "you can sit at our table." Bring a crew, bring one friend, bring nobody. By the second song you are all screaming the same words in the same direction, which is how adult friendship should have worked this entire time.

What if I'm not a good dancer?

Irrelevant. A solid portion of this room is going to be standing still with their eyes closed doing the full Celine arm, and that is a completely respected way to participate.

Why this? Why now?

Because mom life is a lot, and somewhere in the middle of it we stopped doing things for the sole reason that they are fun. That's all this is. Two hours, good people, the best songs ever recorded, and nobody saying mom mom mom MOM MOM while you're trying to finish one sentence. Nobody here cares how much protein you ate yesterday. Just come dance and sing your little heart out.

What do I wear?

Whatever you want to be wearing when "I Want It That Way" comes on. Athleisure. Full glam. The one pair of jeans that currently works. You do you, boo.

Your city next?

Not in the
Atlanta area?

We go where we're wanted. Tell us where you do drop off and we'll start counting.

Noted.

Your ZIP code is now a data point. Round up everyone you know and we'll do our best to make it happen.
